Werkgevers en werknemers schijnen elkaar niet gauw te vinden. Leden van de VSB mochten op de avond ingaan op een aantal stellingen, waarna een panel, bestaande uit minister Mac Andrew, Naomi Esajas-Friperson, onderdirecteur Arbeidsmarkt, en Bidia Bissumbhar, vertegenwoordiger van het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, Internationale Business en Internationale samenwerking is ingegaan op vragen van de aanwezige ondernemers.<\/span><\/h5>\n<h5><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vsbstia.org\/?attachment_id=7160\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7160\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7160\" src=\"https:\/\/vsbstia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Untitled-presentation-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vsbstia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Untitled-presentation-200x113.jpg 200w, https:\/\/vsbstia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Untitled-presentation-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vsbstia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Untitled-presentation-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/vsbstia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Untitled-presentation-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/vsbstia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Untitled-presentation-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vsbstia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Untitled-presentation-800x450.jpg 800w, https:\/\/vsbstia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Untitled-presentation.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Figuur 1: Aan de werkgevers aanwezig op de bijeenkomst werd gevraagd om een woord op te schrijven die voor hun de grootste uitdaging vormt op de arbeidsmarkt.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/h5>\n<h5><b>Oorzaken verstoring<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDe arbeidsmarkt is ernstig verstoord en het succes de komende tijd op de arbeidsmarkt zal afhangen van de mate waarin wij deze verstoring op kunnen heffen\u201d, waren de twee stellingen van de minister. De oorzaken van de verstoring waren volgens hem: de scheve verhouding tussen vraag en aanbod, in het bijzonder het niet kunnen vinden van werknemers met de benodigde competenties; de COVID-19-pandemie en de lockdowns die daarmee gepaard zijn gegaan met als gevolg dat personeel in bepaalde sectoren is weggetrokken naar andere sectoren; de financi\u00eble waardering die bedrijven kunnen aanbieden aan arbeidskrachten; en de groei van de informele sector die een zeer negatieve impact heeft op werkgelegenheid binnen de formele sector.. \u201cMensen willen liever in dienst gaan bij de overheid, dan bij het bedrijfsleven\u201d, motiveerde de minister met een voorbeeld. Daarnaast speelt het arbeidsethos een grote rol bij het misgaan of niet tot stand komen van relaties tussen werkgevers en werknemers.<\/span><\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ten aanzien van de financi\u00eble waardering zei Mac Andrew dat arbeiders wegtrekken naar sectoren waar ze beter kunnen verdienen, maar hij haastte zich om aan te geven dat voor wat betreft het loonniveau er in zekere mate een gebrek is aan realisme bij de beroepsbevolking. Zo verwachten vele personen een vrij hoog loon, omdat de lonen worden vergeleken met lonen die multinationals in ons land betalen aan hun werknemers. Deze verwachting is volgens hem niet in lijn met het bedrijfsleven in Suriname, welke veelal bestaat uit micro, kleine en middelgrote ondernemingen. Met betrekking tot de impact op de arbeidsmarkt als gevolg van de COVID-19 pandemie, noemde hij vooral de sector toerisme die veel personeel heeft zien wegtrekken naar andere sectoren. Afgezien van de steeds groter wordende informele sector, constateerde de bewindsman ook een welig tierende illegale sector. Zowel de informele sector als de illegale sector trekt volgens hem een zware wissel op de werkgelegenheid in de formele sector. De bewindsman gaf ook aan dat onderzoek gedaan moet worden naar de gokcultuur onder de beroepsbevolking en de impact op de bereidwilligheid om de arbeidsmarkt te betreden.<\/span><\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deze conclusies met betrekking tot de arbeidsmarkt trok het ministerie van AW &amp; J na een skills assessment in de districten Paramaribo en Nickerie. Dat kwam doordat zij tevreden waren met wat ze kregen aan steun uit het buitenland, ze vooral rekenden op inkomsten van het gokken en ook bleek dat er een discrepantie was tussen de skills die de werkgever zoekt en die de arbeiders hebben. Daarbij bleek dat de conclusies van de aanwezige VSB-leden veel overeenkomsten vertoonden met die van het ministerie van AJ &amp; W. Er werden enkele oplossingen aangedragen door zowel het aanwezig panel als de VSB-leden zoals het meer afstemmen van opleidingen op de vraag van de werkgevers. Vanuit het Polytechnic College Suriname (PTC) werd gelijk de vraag geuit aan het bedrijfsleven om de opleidingen meer te ondersteunen. Daarnaast werd ook de optie besproken om meer skilled labour uit het buitenland aan te trekken, wat volgens vele aanwezigen bijna noodzaak is gezien de kleine bevolking in Suriname. De minister liet weten dat het oplossen van de verstoring van de arbeidsmarkt inzet van de overheid en het bedrijfsleven vereist. \u201cWant als bedrijven geen arbeiders kunnen vinden gaat de economie
